Business Discussion Nights brings together students to discuss and have a dialogue on recent developing or developed business stories (e.g., from the Economist, WSJ, Washington Post, etc.). This gives students an opportunity to learn how to leverage IT, high technology, business, fashion & retail, financials, energy, manufacturing, healthcare, media & entertainment, design, and more in the context of a consulting case study or project. We explore these various industries that consulting firms are involved in, as well as major issues/trends that have been faced within these areas. We will facilitate these issues/trends and generate ideas/insights and improvements. Expect to tackle questions such as profitability, scalability, market estimation, market entry, etc. for due diligence.

Carnegie Mellon Graduate Consulting Club (CMGCC) and University of Pittsburgh’s consulting organization, Fourth River Solutions (4RS), are planning the Pittsburgh Innovation Case Competition 2019 (PICC). The objective of PICC is to expose teams of non-MBA graduate students and postdoctoral fellows nationwide to real-world business challenges and showcase their creative problem solving skills. This workshop is the opportunity to understand how a case interview is conducted and to practice with us two real-time mock cases. Whether you have a lot of experience or no experience, this session is for you. Come join us as we delve into best practices to approach a case prompt. This session is also intended to prepare interested students for the Pittsburgh Innovation Case Competition.

Join us to learn more about the competition and how you can participate in the event. We will be joined by Deepthi Vijayraghavan, who currently is an associate consultant at McKinsey & Company and was part of the winning team at PHICC 2017. Deepthi will tell us about her experience competing in the event and also share some useful resources that helped her and her team during the case competition. This info session will also give you a chance to meet others interested in participating and potentially form a team for the event!
